Wharton School Of The University
of Pennsylvania Selects Brock As A Finalist For
The Family Business Of The Year Award.
Philadelphia PA - The University of Pennsylvania
Wharton School's Enterprising Family Initiative
has selected Brock & Company as a finalist for
the 2002 Family Business of the Year Award. Out
of 1,100 nominations for this prestigious award,
Brock is one of four finalists.
The award celebrates the rich heritage and dynamic spirit of family business in the Greater Philadelphia region. It honors the spirit of families in business and recognizes their innovative business concepts with strong family leadership.
Criteria for the honor include a positive family business linkage, multi-generational family business involvement, contributions to the industry and community and innovative business practices and strategies. Longevity plays a major role in being selected. Brock & Company, celebrating 75 years in business, is a third-generation family business. Quite remarkable, when only 10% of family businesses make it to the third generation!
In today's business world of mergers, acquisitions and buyouts, particularly in the food service industry, there are very few family owned and operated food service companies that survive and prosper. Brock remains a family owned, privately held company. "We are happy that we have been recognized by the Wharton School of Business not only for our longevity as a family owned company, but also for our reputation as a high quality food service provider," said Mrs. Claudie Brock, Brock's Chair of the Board.

Brock Enters The Private and Independent Schools Segment
Woodstock, VA - Brock, a regional company leading
the way in quality food service management, has
partnered with Massanutten Military Academy to
provide cadets with a student-friendly dining
experience.
Massanutten Military Academy, located in Woodstock, Virginia, is a coedcational, accredited academy focusing on academic, leadership, character and physical education of today's youth grades 6 through 12.
"We provide breakfast, lunch and dinner to 180 cadets, in addition to vending and catering for various school functions. We customize the menus to the Massanutten geography and to the age group, so there are lots of trendy, fun foods plus homestyle cooking," says Gerry Dodge, Brock's director of business development for private and independent schools.
Thanks to the prompting of school president, Colonel Richard Zinser, the emphasis is on a return to hands-on scratch cooking and wholesome, quality meals. "The Colonel sees the dining experience as a time for the cadets to socialize," continues Gerry, "so we're going to be running traditional student-friendly programs including ice cream socials."
Massanutten marks the first private/independent school account for this newly created specialized division. Brock plans to grow this division by gaining new private and independent school food service accounts from New England through Virginia.
